My experience begins immediately out of college. I gave private music lessons for many years. Soon I began concentrating on playing at the professional level in the Pocono Mountains where I lived. I returned to teaching when I found a studio in Hackettstown, New Jersey to continue giving private lessons. I gave lessons there for approximately 20 years. Read More

Fun and progress are the key! Playing guitar (or any instrument) should never feel like work. I gear my lessons so that students feel motivated and inspired to keep going. Instead of just practicing a bunch of scales, I will apply our lesson to a song or progression that is fun and matches the particular skill level of each student. We will record ourselves "Jamming" so the student can hear the fits of their labor, as we continue to up the ante. Read More

I've taught people in their 70s and as young as 8. My teaching style is simple - lets have fun and make great music. I never want to make people go home feeling overwhelmed or down about the work the have to do. Lets keep it simple and FOCUSED to achieving goals like learning your favorite songs or how to jam with buddies. Keeping it light and attainable is super important from professionals down to beginners - otherwise we all end up burnt out on what could have been our relaxing and beautiful activity. Read More

If I am teaching beginners I will focus on developing proper technique (i.e. hand placement and crossing strings). How one ends is contigent on how they start, so I make sure beginners have proper technique before moving on to repertoire. I will also have beginners go through the Hal Leonard method books to ensure they have the theory necessary to progress. Once the students have developed the necessary technique and theory, I will give them more challanging material to learn. Read More
