I always start a lesson with a new student by assessing their current skill level. If the student already has a certain curriculum they are working on, I usually have them pick up from where they left off so I can see where we're at. Taking things into consideration like intonation, posture, dynamics, form etc., I either assign a new curriculum or continue on. My lessons usually consist of 3 books: a scale book, an etude book, and a leveled song book like the Suzuki method. Read More

It is my hope throughout this whole process that students will learn how to develop their own playing style and musicianship that will allow them to tackle any musical gig or endeavor that may come their way. I will also during this time prepare students for the rigors of live performances they might have and guide them into choosing pieces of equipment that will cater to their sounds and tastes as well as their budget needs. I have been involved in music for most of my life; it is simply who I am. From teaching and composing to arranging and producing, all aspects of this art intrigue me and give me great satisfaction to share with others. I graduated from Columbia College Chicago in 2015 with a Bachelor of the Arts in Music Composition and a minor in Management. It has been my pleasure to perform all over the city of Chicago, from the House of Blues and the Bottom Lounge, to Chicago Acoustic Underground and Reggies. Read More

With intermediate players, my approach involves introducing chord inversions and delving into basic music theory. Topics include understanding how to stay in a key and identifying the diatonic chords within it. Read More

I mostly do paperless. Less money involved, less waste of papers. I use a lot of videos and recordings. The principal instrument that needs to be trained is the hears. Brain and fingers immediately after. When a method is necessary, based on level of the student and topics studied, I recommend Creative Guitar by Guthrie Govan 1 and 2; Advancing Guitarist by Mick Goodrick and The Lesson by Victor Wooten. This last one is not properly a method, but an incredible book about music and musicians, that teaches more than the big majority of methods out there Read More
