For beginners, I put a strong emphasis on the fundamentals of music, such as getting to know the staff, time signatures, how to construct a major scale, etc. I will also introduce the student to intervals, which are the basic building blocks of western music. The student will also begin basic ear training, by learning to recognize certain intervals by ear, and also learning to sing and play on their instrument when given a reference pitch. Read More

My teaching style focuses on addressing the students desires and getting them to acknowledge their progress. Music is about having fun and being inspired by your favorite music. Pinpointing what a student needs to learn their favorite songs helps them progress quickly while being fulfilled. Translating these song-learning skills into song-writing skills is the gateway to artistic freedom. There is also a competitive and academic aspect to music that I am well-versed in. Read More

I have been teaching for over ten years to students of all ages. I first started at a local music store in Weymouth, MA when I was going to college. My main goal as a music educator is to help students discover their own spark, or passion, for music and give them a space to let that spark grow and flourish. I like to give small assignments each lesson based on their interests and goals we set together, which I believe helps motivate the student to improve and encourages them to make new musical discoveries each week. I'm dedicated to providing a creative learning environment for students that encourages experimentation, growing from mistakes, and discovering great joy through music. Read More

I strongly believe that everyone is very different.  Learning styles and musical goals are very much a part of this.  Some find reading from a book helps them, so for most students I begin by recommending "A Modern Method For Guitar" from the Berklee Press, however for others a book is not as helpful as listening to some music and watching someone play.  I like to introduce as much theory as is desired from the student because theory is a very important part of the musical process, but if the student prefers to get playing first and understand the “why” later then we can work something out in that regard.  Depending on musical interest, we can work with different genre's and pieces to promote specific techniques and practice routines. Instruments: Piano Guitar Voice Bass Guitar Euphonium Tuba

As a guitar teacher, I like to start with getting the student accustomed with each string, including how to tune a guitar and how to play different notes on each string. Next, I start teaching chords by starting with E minor and then moving as little as possible with the fingers so the student can understand the relation between certain chords. For voice, I start with posture and breath support and work on vocal techniques before we even start with singing songs. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
