For absolute beginner's I will spend the first few lessons just working on getting a sound out of the instrument and when ready, playing some easily recognized songs (like nursery rhymes), by ear to develop aural skills from the very start. All of my students will start with the Rubank methods of the appropriate level. For beginner and intermediate students, we will work out of classical repertoire books appropriate to the level. My teaching experience dates all the way back to my high school days when I gave trumpet lessons to some younger family members.  I expanded to giving trumpet lessons to adults and youth during my undergraduate days at The University of Akron.  When I started graduate school there, I began teaching voice lessons, composition and arranging lessons, and conducting lessons.  I also have experience teaching in group and classroom settings for college and high school aged students. I have been teaching piano 20 years ago as a first job out of a small church in Millersburg, Ohio. I had been taking piano since I was three and had been doing competition piano. I then went to Otterbein College and earned my degree in Voice. From there I started working for Music and Arts in Westerville as a piano instructor for 10 years.
