I began teaching private lessons in 1989. My focus is to understand what learning style my students have and base my teaching methods on their individual needs. I want my students to use their musical skills as much as possible to give them motivation to practice and satisfaction in their newfound abilities. For beginner trumpeters, I typically start with Hal Leonards Essential Elements and then slowly transition into solo repertoire that suits their skill set as they make it into the intermediate level. As advanced players, we will focus on refining skills with drill books as well as work on standards in solo repertoire. I expect my students to practice almost every day and I expect that the parents will be part of keeping them accountable for scheduling that practicing. I am a high energy instructor that brings my passion for singing, attention to the individual, and knowledge of vocal technique into each and every lesson. I graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2011 with a Bachelor of Musical Arts Degree. I continued my education and received a Masters of Music degree from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University in 2013.
