I believe that learning an instrument must be taught from all three approaches: tactile, aural, and visual. I incorporate all three of these into each lesson so the student can walk away feeling like she has gotten closer to her instrument! For young students, I follow a Suzuki approach where a parent or guardian plays a vital role in practicing and musical development. I was a part of my Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, and Ensembles all four years I attended college. When I was younger, I was a part of a traveling music group varying ages 7-18. As the student progresses I gradually phase out Essential Elements and replace it with elementary scale books and exercise books. Read More

Because of this my teaching has grown to embrace and celebrate the improvisational and communal aspects of folk music as well as the rigorous, methodical approach to technique and theory that I learned as a classically trained violinist.
