For beginner and even some intermediate students I like the Sigmund Hering Method. I also love Embouchure Builder by Lowell Little. For high school players I like to introduce more solo material and advanced method books including The Claude Gordon Systematic Approach and books by Charles Colin, Earl Irons and Herbert Clarke. While i believe there are certain basic of play the trumpet that are accepted worldwide i do not believe there is only one correct method and encourage my students to incorporate several methods to create their own personal sound. For beginning students, I start with the Essential Elements book. If the student has already taken lessons or is in their school band/orchestra, I encourage moving onto the Rubank Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced method books depending on ability. Once a student has proven that they are able to handle it, I will start on solo repertoire. For beginning students I typically start with sound development and articulation for the brass instruments starting with armband studies and schlosburg studies. For the intermediate students I work on Clark studies and intersperse getchel etudes for artistic development. Advanced students work on major recital works for brass that help their development for performance. Guitar students learn chordal techniques with rythem patterns and a blend of classical playing finger picking for individual technique for fingers. Read More

I'm a very passionate musician who loves guiding and instructing students to further their own interests in music. I have had a variety of performance opportunities throughout my time at Western Carolina University from which I graduated in 2012. I have had the opportunity to play in a variety of venues from Hawaii for the Pearl Harbor anniversary as well as in the the Rose Bowl Parade. For beginning piano students, I started with the Piano Adventures Series unless they show a higher than usual natural ability. If I see that are above average, I will switch them to the Modern Course for Piano by John Thompson. Along with these method books, I introduce solo music from classical to modern music. If the student is learning the trumpet or another brass instrument, we begin with Standards of Excellence by Bruce Pearson. Read More
