I also enjoy seeing their love of music develop.  I take each student where they are: beginner or advanced, and put goals in place for them.  Such goals can be things like learning music for solo and ensemble band / orchestra competitions, performing in their Church, or putting together a jazz band or classical ensemble for concerts. I earned a BM degree in Music Therapy with specialized studies in Oboe Performance at Florida State University in 2014 and an MFA in Instrumental Arts from California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) in 2017. My principal teachers have included Dr. Eric Ohlsson and Dr. Allan Vogel. In addition, I've studied English horn with Carolyn Hove, baroque oboe with Gonzalo Ruiz, jazz improvisation with Paul Novros, free improvisation with Vinny Golia, and North Indian music/improvisation with Ashish Khan. In my teaching style I have specific skills in technique, literacy and interpretation that I believe are important; these are drawn from traditional classical values and the folk elements I learned between ages fifteen and twenty-five. After addressing performance practice in these areas I like to bring the students interests and inclinations in and use the afore-mentioned aspects to help them achieve skills to play music in their individual voice.
