On guitar my goal is that the student can read in first position, play chords for five major keys and three minor, and to be able to improvise with a pentatonic scale. I also use various Hal Leonard and Mel Bay books depending on the genre the student is interested in. I use similar methods when teaching mandolin or bass. Read More

I have a set methodology that is flexible enough to cater to each individual student. We learn exercises for basic technique, followed by scales and arpeggios, then we work from a method book to address technique issues specific to clarinet. After that, we work on music such as etudes, solos, and ensemble parts for band or orchestra. I also enjoy helping students with pop and jazz pieces that they enjoy, so that they have variety in their practice and become well rounded musicians and can play many styles. Read More

My joy is to see progress and growth in my students. I also enjoy seeing their love of music develop. I take each student where they are: beginner or advanced, and put goals in place for them. Such goals can be things like learning music for solo and ensemble band / orchestra competitions, performing in their Church, or putting together a jazz band or classical ensemble for concerts. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music. Read More
