My PRIMARY goal is to instill a love for music in my students. My methods are not unusual, although I am a bit. Based on the the students experience and ability, or lack thereof, I'll make suggestions about what music to get. Often they already have music that will work, to which I will add developemental studies of various sorts. Rather than the trial and error approach most new musicians go through to find mastery, I teach my students proper technique before diving into songs. This way, students experience fewer setbacks and gain confidence quickly.With experienced students, I focus more on playing with emotion and musicianship, starting with musical elements like dynamics, articulation, and air support. As a teacher, I instill in my students a deeper love and understanding of music and the clarinet, guide them toward the achievement of their aspirations, and aid them in the discovery of their own distinctive voice through the development of confident self-directed learning, critical thinking, and healthy performance practices. For beginners, either children or adults, I like to begin by teaching you to play an easy song that is recognizable so that you are excited and engaged in your instrument right away. From there we dive in to a beginning instructional book that teaches you the theory of what you are actually playing.
