Instruments: Violin, Cello, Viola, Electric Violin, Double Bass, Music

I began teaching during high school. My Conductor asked me to teach some beginning students in order to help them out with their playing, and my teaching has evolved from there. I have taught orchestral strings for over 20 years now, and still continue to play professionally myself. Each student has their own personality and way of learning, so I try to make sure from the very beginning that I get to know my students. Read More

MY TEACHING EXPERIENCE DATES BACK TO THE YEAR OF 1991. I STARTED WORKING WITH STUDENTS IN HIGH SCHOOL, TEACHING THEM HOW TO BECOME A BETTER STUDENT OF MUSIC. IN THE LAST 22 YEARS I HAVE HAD STUDENTS TO MAKE ALL-AREA BANDS AND ORCHESTRAS IN THE STATE OF TEXAS. IN THE PRESENT TIME I ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO PRACTICE 15 MINUTES A DAY INSTEAD OF THE LONG-GATED 1 HOUR PRACTICE. ALSO I ENCOURAGE THE STUDENT TO BE CONSISTENT AND 15 MINUTES AUTOMATICALLY TURNS INTO 30 MINUTES. Read More

Instruments: Violin, Viola

It all starts from fundamentals such as having good posture, listening to correct intonations, and learning bow technique. I believe the more students play scales and etudes such as Kayser, Wolfhart, Kreutzer, and Suzuki, the better they would become as a musicians in the future. As the students master the basics and get to know their violins, we'll move on to more advanced topics such as music theory and music history giving them all the knowledge needed to play complex pieces within just a few years of holding their violins for the first time. Instruments: Voice, Violin, Viola, Fiddle

My teaching style is very patient and encouraging and I can tailor my lesson plans to suit each individual student. Although building technique and comfort are extremely important, I find that the most essential aspect of learning an instrument is to study the music that you love, and I'm definitely open to adding a bit of musical theory to every lesson if the student is interested. While the student is learning the basics, I also add pieces in different genres to the student's repertoire so that he or she can develop early familiarity with a variety of styles. Read More

Instruments: Piano, Voice, Violin, Cello, Viola, Trumpet, Trombone, Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet, Drums, Recorder, Double Bass, Euphonium, French Horn, Tuba, Mallet Percussion, Orchestral Percussion, Oboe, Bassoon, English Horn, Keyboard

I like to create lessons in which students learn to read traditional music notation, develop technique, and play familiar tunes. I use musictheory.net to help student practice reading note names. The faster a student can read musical notation, the faster the student can pick up new pieces. To develop technique, I want students to lean scales and arpeggios. Sometimes, we use a technique book to develop muscle memory, and other times technical exercises are created based on the tricky musical passages of solo or ensemble pieces. Read More
