I like to bring in all genre's of music including rock and pop, folksongs, movie tunes just to name a few. I find that students learn quickly when learning music that is already familiar to them. I work with tapping rhythms and singing note names, then learn how to pluck the part and then finally add the bow. I like to get to know all of my students, it's a unique challenge as a teacher forming individual lesson plans in accordance with the students personality. That is a big part of what makes teaching interesting, and I really enjoy when students and I can work together to play pieces that they want to play. It's not about progressing lightning fast all of the time. Music is more of a marathon and there is a ton of literature out there, so with students I always try to remind them of that and encourage exploring music as a world, and not as a competition with others.
