Nothing is more rewarding than having a student fall in love with music and playing it for themselves and others. It is important to me that each student not only progresses in skills and technique, but also gains a deeper love and understanding of music. I believe playing in a group with other like-minded musicians is essential for every musician. I like to begin the first lesson by recognizing the students strengths by having them show me what they can accomplish on their own. There are specific books that I like to teach out of depending on the skill level so that needs to be addressed during the first lesson. Recognizing and building on strengths to me should come before criticising weaknesses. Those will be addressed as they come along and exercises with scales and etudes will be chosen for those weaknesses, but that does not mean that challenging music needs to be played each and every time so that the student has to struggle for greatness. My teaching experience dates back to thirteen years ago, as I began teaching private lessons in a new music academy that was created in my town. I have been consistently teaching students since then. I like to encourage students to practice on a regular basis and keep them motivated through attending concerts and discussing them, studying the lives of famous musicians and violinists. I am partial to Samuel Applebaum's methods: For young beginners, I like tto begin with the String Builder series; then, to improve upon understanding of key signatures, move on to Scales for Strings. Similarly, I'm also a fan of Suzuki, although I am not entirely limited to those two. And, of course recital and performance pieces are a must, preferably of the students's choosing - usually students already have something in mind that they want to learn! Read More
