I use the Suzuki method as well as the Doflein method books, and will choose other specific methods depending on what else the student would like to learn and what will help develop style,technique, and musicality. We will also have fun with seasonal and holiday music. Playing the violin is not about burying your head in a piece of music and learning just for memorization. I'm currently a graduate assistant at UGA. I am principal violist of the University of Georgia Symphony Orchestra and violist of the Hodgson String Trio. I am also an orchestral instructor for the UGA String Project. I have performed in several orchestras in the southeast United States including the Bryan Symphony, Owensboro Philarmonic, Augusta Symphony, Oak Ridge Symphony, and Albany Symphony Orchestras. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. I believe each student is different. Therefor, lessons should differ depending on each students particular needs, taste in music, and age. I would never treat an adult student like I would a young student and vice versa. I always try to set weekly goals with each of my students in order for them to have something to work towards on a consistent basis. If my students don't reach their weekly goal I simply have a little bit of a review with them in the beginning of the lesson and then proceed with that weeks work. Read More
