Speaking from experience, a student learns best at their own pace. With private music lessons, it is a lot easier to identify what skills a student is good and as well as what needs to be worked on. When working with a new student, I like to hear what they have, so that way I can determine what I need to work on with said student. Because in order for a teacher to be as effective as can be for the student, they must get to know the student as a player and see what they already know so that the student is properly challenged and not bored or frustrated. My teaching experience began when I was in college. I taught trombone and euphonium private lessons for several years in the school district that I attended when I was a student. Additionally, I also have done All State Masterclasses for the TMEA trombone etudes. Encouraging regular practice, building the life-long skill of discipline, and hard work are key skills that I enjoy getting to emphasize to my students, as it has a tendency to build student progression and ultimately gain a passion for learning the instrument. In high school, as a leader in our band program, I began helping other band members in need. It was then that I fell in love with the art of teaching. I began officially teaching private lessons five years ago when I started college. I have taught in the San Antonio, Austin, Cedar Park and Pflugerville area, students ranging from middle school to college level.
