My starting point for my students is typically having them practice posture, hand position and proper mouthpiece placement. After this has been satisfied, I have the students blow using a breathing exercise. From this, I have the students play the first three notes out of their Habits of Good Musician Book 1. I am and have been a passionate musical person. The moment I went into 6th grade and got the clarinet as my instrument, that was all I could focus on, and here we are. I am on my last year of my undergrad music education degree, at Texas AM University Kingsville. Teaching is something I am very passionate about. I played bass guitar in high school and university jazz bands, the latter of which performed very well at the UNC Greeley Jazz Festivals in the early 2000s. I was required to learn to play and teach brass instruments, and am proficient at those, as well. I have been very fortunate to also have been around a lot of world class teaching after becoming a teacher, myself; much of that is courtesy of the Texas Music Educators Association and the wonderful teachers I have encountered in my career.
