My methods are fairly simple. No matter the age or experience level, fundamentals are key. This includes proper embouchure, good posture, effective warm ups, and a consistent practice routine. For junior high and beginning students I like to go over proper embouchure, rhythm counting and creating a solid sound. After that's established I like to get started on technique exercises, scale practice and practice methods for their own benefit outside of lessons. My beginning students usually start with Hal Leonards Essential Elements, Accents on Achievements, Do It Play In Band, and much more. Once my student is able to grasp basic fundamentals and a healthy proper tone and technique, I will then be able to incorporate solo repertoire for future recitals and contests. I'm a multi-instrumentalist who loves making music with other people. Making music is a fundamental human experience, and too many people feel that it is out of reach for them, or that the only way to participate in music-making is to play in a band or orchestra. I fully believe that there are many valid ways of learning and playing music, as well as calling yourself a musician.
