My methods are fairly simple. No matter the age or experience level, fundamentals are key. This includes proper embouchure, good posture, effective warm ups, and a consistent practice routine. I'm a passionate and curious musician. I'm self-taught in the styles of classical and jazz from when I picked up the clarinet I found at a Salvation Army at the age of 10. I taught myself until I started college and studied with Kelly Lake, Stephanie Gardner, Jeff Quamo and Cris Inguanti at NAU. While working toward receiving my Masters in Clarinet performance at NAU, I taught music theory and aural perception at the undergraduate level. In addition to teaching I've had two pieces written and recorded for me along with a couple tracks on a comedian's recent albums. I have been teaching in classrooms and after-school programs for over twenty years, and in 2023 began teaching music lessons in my home studio. I grew up playing music and participating in school bands and orchestras, but spent the first half of my adulthood in careers unrelated to music. I started playing the piano in college and have learned to play many instruments in my career. I was an Elementary school teacher for 20 years teaching music, band, English Language Arts, Science, and History.
