I'm a passionate educator who loves working with students of all ages and sharing my move of music. In 2014, I graduated from Concordia University with a Bachelor af Arts degree in Music Performance/Education. Performing with the Concordia Music ensembles has been one of the greater experiences of my life as a musician, and I have had the oppurtunity of touring to multiple places with both the choir and the band. Lessons are broken up into two parts: Technique and repertoire. It's important to build up proper technique to prevent injury and to refine skill. I like students to work on three pieces at a time (It sounds scary, but is totally manageable.) If I feel the student can handle more music, I will adjust. The first piece is at the student's skill level. This is so the student can accomplish the task at hand relatively quickly without a lot of wood shedding. Read More

I always start off my very first lesson, (or a very long time since seeing that student) with a piece of their choice to showcase their ability and level of playing and another I hand them to sight read. That way I can assign the right material at their playing level and start letting them know what books they will need to buy for future lessons. When i have heard them play, I go through my gallery of music and pull out tonal, technical, and everything in between to start outlining what we will be working on for months. Read More

We then held a large concert as well as performed with the Sacramento Philharmonic at a Link Up concert. Read More

When it comes to beginning band students, I will typically use the Standards of Excellence book. But, depending on the students and their abilities, I will try Essential Elements, as well. For piano students, I will use Bastien Piano Basics, Fabor Piano Adventures or Alfred's Basic Piano, depending on the age group. After the students start to understand the foundation and fundamentals of their instrument, then I will find a piece of music for them to learn as a soloist. Read More
