My teaching experience pre-dates college. I started teaching private drum-set lessons when I was in high school - I was also section leader so I would frequently hold after school sectionals with the entire percussion section. After going to college I started to teach more and more privately, gaining more students here and there. Once I started my practicum and student teaching experience I was teaching in many public schools districts of ranging variety from - Paterson public schools, to Allendale public schools, then to Wayne public schools -ranging from grade levels K to 12th grade. I believe in teaching fundamental principles of technique that can be applied universally, and I encourage students to focus on one basic idea at a time. Scales, arpeggios, etudes and other exercises are an important part of daily practice, reinforced by weekly technique classes. I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. I graduated from Temple University in 1988, with a Master's of Music degree in the area of Percussion Performance, and Jazz emphasis. During my career at Temple I had the opportunity play with the Philadelphia Orchestra, and at various venues including in New York at Carnegie Hall, as an example. However, I do not teach the Suzuki method. I use the book for the songs and exercises in the book. I also like all students to work from a theory book. When we learn how to speak, we also learn how to read and write in our language. I believe that the same is important for music. I use different books for adults and children.
