I am a creative, goal-centered and insightful instructor who has spent many years dedicating her life to excellence in music. My primary instrument is piano. I'm an exceptionally gifted sight-reader and love to pass on some of those skills to my students. While I specialize in accompaniment, I've given some lessons for a variety of other instruments as well. I am dedicated to training beginner to advanced voices using a mixture of classical and pop techniques. For younger students, I typically begin with just getting them comfortable to sing by letting them choose the songs they love to listen to, and using vocal techniques that are easy for them to grasp and understand. For my pre-teen, and teenage students I work on more pre-advanced vocal techniques that they can utilize while singing the songs they love. When I have an adult student, I like to use pre-advanced to advanced vocal techniques as a larger part of the lesson, and help them to apply those techniques to whatever projects they are already working on outside of the studio. It has taken me many years to actually say that with full confidence, but when I consider the joy I experience while teaching, and also look at the growth and improvement my students experience throughout their time with me, it is really clear: this is what I love, and this is what I have a unique gifting to do. I have two degrees in music: a Master's in Vocal Performance from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, and a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Iowa State University.
