For students that are just starting out, I use the Suzuki Method. This method includes initially learning by ear or listening, and learning to read notes later on. For children, parent involvement is also an essential aspect of the method, this allows the parent to be able to help their child during practice at home. My lesson style consists of working on fingering and plucking first from Essential Method Book for Strings or the Suzuki book (for the beginning students who are children). While they (children) are practicing, I encourage/ recommend them to memorize the songs if they can. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. I have performed as a section violinist with Round Rock Symphony, Victoria Symphony, Temple Symphony, Laredo Philharmonic, Austin Civic Orchestra, and Gilbert and Sullivan Austin. I create play-along videos, so that kids have something specific to practice at home. I use "Read this First" as a note reading book. Students play along with me and also by themselves at lessons. Eventually kids can gather together and play as a group if they wish to do so. I began teaching private lessons part time when I was 19 years old in different academies in my city and since there, I have been teaching both in academies and at home. I have taught both violin and viola and some of my students are now persuing an undergrad degree back in Colombia.
