I teach beginning students both by rote and through reading. We use standard Suzuki books for repertoire and method books such as Wohlfahrt, Mazaz, and Sevcik. Very young students begin on Sassmanshaus since it is very engaging as well as well written. Zhen H. joined Easton string music summer festival, and won the third place in viola solo competition. Zhen H. took part in the viola festival Viva La Viola held by Shanghai Conservatory and then played in the viola chamber orchestra. Zhen H. played a string quartet concert in the opening ceremony of the Viva La Viola Festival in the Shanghai Concert Hall. I have been playing violin, viola, and piano for over 15 years. I began teaching as an assistant for CIM's Preparatory Orchestra Department, a position I held for four years while earning my Bachelors. As part of my minor, I also spent one year student teaching for CIM's Preparatory Eurhythmics Department and as a tutor for the conservatory. I moved to Tennessee in the fall of 2017 to earn my graduate degree as a Teaching Assistant for the school of music at UT, where I had the opportunity to teach private lessons and group classes to undergraduate viola majors and minors. For beginning students who are children, I like to use the Suzuki violin method. While they beginning to show progress Ill begin to include F. Mazas Melodios and Progessive Studies and the Wohlfahrt Studies combined with appropriate solo repertoire. For adults, I prefer to find out what their interest is focus on and I guide my instruction acording to this. I also like to include some Alexander Technique exercises to help my students manage their posture and to prevent getting hurt with the instruments position. Read More
