I am an instructor who tailors lessons based on the student's desires. Having been a performer since I was 13 years old, I work as a musical coach. My performing experience varies from pop, rock, country, jazz, hard rock, contemporary Christian and classical. I am a classically trained pianist and vocalist. I do not have a beginning method book that I prefer, so I typically use a student's band method book for early lessons. For advanced students I prefer the Bordogni/Rochut etude book and the Blazhevich clef studies, along with a solo. I use scales with students of any level, and expect for students to eventually have all the major and minor scales memorized. Read More

Depending on whether it be voice or instrumental my methods will differ slightly. For beginning voice students (-12) I teach out of a folk songs book, and if they choose, challenging disney repertoire which adds an element of fun, but also is educational. for Intermediate students (12-15) I use the same folk songs book but apply more advanced techniques on proper singing technique, then depending on their level, I might do more advanced repertoire which fits them. For brass, woodwind, and percussion students who are in a school band or orchestra, I would use the school's chosen method book in additional to supplemental materials that I would provide, based on the student's interests and needs. For those who are not in band and are just starting, my preferred method for brass and woodwind players is Tradition of Excellence.
