I am passionate about my students and about music. From the outset of working with music students I emphasize the importance of good posture and handling of their instrument, good breathing technique, good embouchure, and regular practice in order to develop strong embouchure and technique and knowledge of their instrument. I love teaching! Whether it is music, dance, math, or anything else I may find myself teaching, I give my all to my students. Read More

During my studies, I played and toured with internationally renowned jazz artists such as Kenny Barron, Anat Cohen, Rufus Reid, Conrad Herwig, Russell Malone, Harvey Mason, and Michael Mossman. While being the main sideman in jazz groups such as the Leon Anderson quartet, the Scotty Barnhart Quintet, and the Bob Dogan Quartet, I am also the leader of my own jazz quartet called the Kai H. Quartet. Though primarily playing jazz, I can professionally play a wide variety of musical styles such as funk, motown, reggae, pop, salsa, and classical. Read More

The parent learns the rudimentary skills of the instrument and learns how to work in a positive and nurturing way to be more conducive to their child’s learning. Read More

For beginners we will take it slow but hard work is always needed. I can teach you everything that I know, but it’s up to the student to take in what’s going on and work hard to get down fundamentals . Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More
