I have been a music teacher since 1972, teaching classroom music, as well as being a Choir and Band Director, in Vernon, Glastonbury and West Hartford. Especially popular were my guitar and music of the theater classes. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. I began teaching privately in high school when a family friend had asked me to teach their beginner son music and trumpet. Since then, I have had the opportunity to teach all sorts of people ranging from as young as 6 years old, to 64 years old. Something I prioritize in my teaching is the development of efficient problem-solving skills. This is such an important skill to me because I firmly believe that if a student is unable to learn and discover things without my help as a teacher, then I have effectively taught them nothing.
