For new students I would ask that they already have Nilo Hovey's Rubank "Elementary Method Saxophone" book and Trent Kynaston's "Daily Studies for All Saxophones" so we can get to work on building their fundamentals right away. Once students have developed their basics I will then introduce them to beginner repertoire , depending on their focus it can be either classical or jazz that they will prepare until performance ready. I have lots of experience teaching; I began teaching in my private in-home studio right after college about 6 years ago. I was even interviewed about my teaching and performing for papers in the Delmarva region. In educational outreach I have performed serveral times over the last couple years with the Musical Ambassadors Program that the Richmond Symphony founded, playing woodwind quintet music in schools all over Virginia and teaching the kids about elements of music and the instruments we play. Instruments: Piano, Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet

I have my students spend a great deal of time on rhythmic accuracy, scales, and sight-reading. I create my own lesson plans and provide students with a variety of instructional materials. Students begin each lesson with rhythmic drills and scales with gradual increases in difficulty levels. I prefer using Rubank method books and the Klose Complete Method for the clarinet. Students are always free to bring in music from their school band program and/or solos and etudes of their choice. Read More

In these organizations, I have held leadership positions such as Northeast District Secretary/Treasurer, Alumni Relations Officer, and 25th Anniversary Chair for Kappa Kappa Psi. Read More

With younger students especially, I always start with instructing the student on the basics of their instrument, such as the proper terminology, how the instrument actually produces sound, and proper maintenance. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
