I am a piano instructor who has been involved in the teaching profession for all of my adult life. I graduated from the Berklee College of Music in 1970 earning a Bachelor of Music Degree in Composition, Cum Laude. I was fortunate to go on to perform internationally, performing with the Buddy Rich Big Band, Nelson Riddle, Suzanne Somers, and many other notable singers and musicians. For younger children I typically begin with the Alfred Piano Lessons series as I find the songs very accessible, catchy, and the format of the book to be engagaing for kids. The series is also very suited to a complete beginner in its introduction of new concepts and will have the child already playing songs by the end of the first lesson. For older students I will skip over easy material in an effort to simply fill in the gaps of what they already know or can learn quickly and focus on moving them more into music they are interested in playing. I have been teaching since before I even went to college. My teaching experience, professionally, began in 2018. In 2019, I began college at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette for vocal music. For young students, I ask a parent to be involved in the training so that they can help the child with practicing. The key to young beginners is making everything fun and not going too fast.
