I was Artistic Director and Violin Teacher with Lighthouse Suzuki Strings Inc. in Florida for 11 years where I directed the string orchestra, coached string ensembles and had 50 private students. 6 years ago I moved to Colorado where I began my online studio. I started teaching voice part-time in college, and once I graduated took on a full time position teaching privately in my home studio, student’s homes, and in schools in Round Rock. Implementing the motivation and lesson plan to practice regularly is an important skill that can be learned while still having fun. At present my practice of teaching music involves inspiring other singers to want to sing along during Zoom meetings, or giving them the tools to make a good audio recording for a virtual choir. Recently I made slideshows of the music score synchronized with the audio track for their voice part. I took responsibility for my own learning, and shared my tools with others. I ask all of my students to be prepared for their lessons with a notebook and pencil for lesson notes and assignments. I ask them to bring any materials they have and will often recommend books and supplemental material I have had success with.
