I've been teaching and leading sectionals for four years now, and have taught lessons on both fiddle and voice! It's an honor to be able to spread the love of music to students, as music has changed my life. Consistent practice is important, but so is finding what the student loves to practice. I blend the tried-and-true poise of classical technique with holistic approaches to satisfy two purposes: 1) the traditional desire to hone skill with practice and discipline, and 2) the psychological development of the student's independent musicianship. Music without expression is only sport. While technique, exercise, rigor, and history are essential in order to develop the deepest possible understanding of music, I aim to go beyond this to shape the independent expressionism of each student. I have fun with my students. They learn to play songs that they want to play, and I provide theoretical and technical instruction within that framework. Learning to play an instrument is a lifelong endeavor which provides both challenge and satisfaction. I'm an active listener and seek to understand each student's needs and goals. I'm a very passionate and motivated educator who loves sharing that passion and motivation with my students. I'm currently attending Metropolitan State University of Denver getting my bachelor's in trumpet performance. I've been playing the trumpet since I was 11, but really found that it was my calling in my junior year of high school where I decided to pursue a degree in something that I love! Since then, I have won the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award in 2018, played with the Parker Symphony as the assistant principal trumpet, have played with the Colorado Brass, the Rocky Mountain Jazz Orchestra, and the Mariachi Los Caracaminos de MSU, as well as many other chamber ensembles both professionally and at my university. I taught Elem./Secondary Music for 30 years in IA and CO. As of this writing, I have been teaching private piano lessons for 35 years. I also served as Colorado (CMEA) State Chair of Elem. General Music and directed award-winning children's choirs, even piloting and hosting various regional honor choral music festivals along the way. I am a church Director of Music at Allenspark Community Church in Allenspark, Colorado.
