It became a known fact when I was in college that I was a guitar player, and many people admired my skill. Some of my fellow Florida Southern Moccasins went so far as to request teaching straight from myself. I personally enjoy listening to and playing a wide variety of different kinds of music. From 60s classic rock to modern pop music, Stevie Ray Vaughan to Cage the Elephant, and even showtunes and Hip-Hop/Rap grooves, I hope to have something to offer to everyone. Read More

In 2007 I began to study at the University of Arts of Cuba. While studying I was also a professor at the National School of Art. I liked the work as a professor of music because I always had the councils of my teachers and those experiences I then conveyed to my students in each of my classes. After I graduated from college I decided to be a teacher; that was where I felt more needed and knew I had to be. Read More

I started teaching guitar lessons in 1999 (20 years this year!) Since those days I've gotten two degrees and taught at colleges, and private institutions, as well as high school and middle schools. I've found that combining textbook music instruction along with learning to play some of the music the student is listening to keeps them growing and engaged. Most importantly it makes learning music fun! I love jazz and I encourage efforts of composition and improvisation to help the student take ownership of the notes they're learning. Read More

The first lesson typically is to set expectations and evaluate the students level of guitar knowledge. For beginners, we start from the beginning utilizing Aaron Shearers method book. For the intermediate player, we find music that is appropriate for their level of playing while also focusing on reading music and music theory applied to the guitar. For advanced players, we begin by reviewing music theory applied to guitar and focus on music for their level of playing. advanced players will go through the same practices as a university student studying guitar performance. For beginner and intermediate students: I begin with the end; or rather, an end product. I ask questions like: What sort of music inspires you? What music do you love? What music could you not live without? What music do you aspire to make? Which musicians do you look up to? Depending on the answers, we can figure out a song / artist / style to choose as a goal together. Then I personally learn the chord structure and melody. (In the rare case that they are completely directionless, I'll choose a popular song that they can easily listen to on their own.) From there, I start teaching the fundamental techniques of the instrument, and continually refer back to our song, for why the technique is important. Read More
