For any beginner musician, I find it is very important to have a general idea of the most basic level of theory. A student should know how the notes relate to each other and why. Strict rules and "know-how" are important, but music is expressive and creative. For guitar students: I typically only accept beginner-level students for guitar lessons. I will teach students the mechanics of the guitar (tuning, anatomy, theory, etc.) before learning any pieces. I will teach students how to read a variety of musical notation including sheet music, tablature (tabs), and chord sheets so that each student will be versed in the primary notations they will encounter. For both piano and guitar students, I will incorporate music theory and music history lessons in order to give context to the pieces in which they learn. Read More

I have a passion for education and believe it is equally beneficial for both tutor and pupil. Read More

I savor every opportunity to bring my passion for playing guitar to each teaching session. My aim is always to develop each student's strengths and weaknesses in playing; developing their knowledge of the instrument and music; develping their creativity in approaching different types of musical expression; thereby, increasing their love of the instrument and music. I approach teaching with an emphasis on developing a student's ear for music, carefully balanced with learning practical, rudimentary knowledge and musical theory for effective, well-rounded musical development. From there, I went on to a university and continued to teach guitar, bass, and voice while I finished up on getting my performance degree. Ironically enough, some of the best lessons I ever learned in music school weren't even how to play, it was how to teach. Read More
