I group all guitar skills in 3 different categories: - Chords - Arpeggios - Solos Then break all the unique intricacies and specificities based on the student interest and existing skill. Everything else depends on the student's favorite genre. My standard procedure is to pick 3 songs from a genre that the student wants to play, ordered by level of difficulty, and break them down into fragments that subsequently constitute the homework for the next sessions. Learning to read, write, and play music is essentially learning another language and having taught languages for several years, I know people move at different paces.
