I'm an enthusiastic and driven teacher who loves to help students realize their personal musical goals. In 2012, I graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in Composition from Trinity University and in 2014, I earned an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts. I've performed a wide variety of music with everyone from orchestras to pop and folk bands throughout my life. I am a graduate of Texas Tech University. I began teaching privately in 1985 on the Lubbock ISD Music Tutorial Program. I went into the schools and taught students privately during class hours. I taught Tuba and Baritone Horn. In 1989 I began teaching with Lubbock Parks and Recreation in the community centers. This was more generalized. I taught Band Instruments, Voice, Guitar, Music Theory, Beginner Piano, Beginner Strings. What I consider to be my crown achievement is hearing from parents who told me that the overall academic performance of their children had improved since they began taking lessons from me. Read More

My method is based on each student's age, skill level, enthusiasm/interest level, and their wants/needs. For beginner students, it is important to start with the basic fundamentals and techniques, but once those are mastered, there is more freedom to explore. For intermediate students, we work on filling in gaps they may have in their current understanding of music/guitar, and anything else they want to work toward. We were awarded the "Best Bluegrass Band" by the Austin Chronicle in 2013 and 2018. We've been featured on No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain, the NBC tv show Revolution, the Daily Show (back when it was John Stewart still!), NPR, CMT, Rolling Stone, BBC, and were in the major motion picture musical Pitch Perfect 3. On top of being in a successful touring band, I play a lot of solo shows, play pickup bluegrass gigs around Austin, and play with my side project Robin Alice. Read More
