I am an avid music educator and performer. I am originally from Austin, TX, but moved to Colorado in order to pursue a masters degree in performance and pedagogy at the University of Colorado Boulder. I have performed throughout Colorado as a saxophonist, clarinetist and flutist. I love listening to all kinds of music including jazz, classical, folk and funk. For beginner students, I try to get them to learn a song by the first lesson.  Eventually, I start them off by focusing on technique (learning notes and scales), tone development, etudes, and repertoire.  Efficiency of effort in the fingers, usage of air, and holding of the body in order to produce a beautiful sound is a top priority.  I believe the connection between the mind and body is very important, and you will find me often asking questions to engage the students in being aware of what they are doing as they are playing. Everyone is different and they have different goals for themselves. As a teacher, it’s difficult to learn by being rushed or lagging behind, so I believe it’s important that every student is able to learn at their own pace. I encourage this by highlighting accomplishments, no matter how small, so that way it can encourage a student to want to keep learning.
