I am a clarinetist from Potomac, Maryland and has been playing the clarinet for eleven years. Between 2013 and 2019, I have been a part of the highly renowned Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras (MCYO), and was Principal Clarinetist of their Young Artists Orchestra from 2014-15, Symphony Orchestra from 2016-17, and their Philharmonic Orchestra from 2018-19. I like to set goals for my students. I generally work out of lessons books, solo repertoire, and whatever else the student brings in. If the students have music from classes in school, I will also assist them with that. I try to keep the lesson light, and enjoyable! I began playing piano for church choirs in my hometown. During my college years, my private lessons experience began when I would give pointers to my fellow music majors who had to pass piano proficiency as part of their degree requirement. Furthermore, I am from the school of thought of concentrated practice. I help students identify the length of time they can concentrate without exhausting their attention. I started teaching private lessons in college, about four or five years ago. I have taken students on several different instruments, mainly saxophone, piano and guitar. I find that it is important to encourage students to play and practice the type of music they enjoy, and to have fun performing and learning. I also believe that students should play in recitals, bands, and get other performance experiences while taking private lessons in order to improve their overall musicianship. Read More
