Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. I slowly started picking up beginner flute and piano students and realized how much I loved teaching music.During my time at Millersville University I have taken multiple methods courses to help advance my teaching. For classical studies, there are some standard saxophone repertoire books I like to go to. For brand new students, I use Essential Elements books, for intermediate students I use Rubank method books, and for advanced students I use the Ferling etude book. For jazz studies, I begin students with Lenny Neihaus' Jazz Conception for Saxophone, which lays a great foundation for jazz and swing playing. In my opinion, I believe in the four "T" s. The student must generate a robust tone, that's their signature. Then comes technique, fluid technique is vital. Thirdly, is good sense of time, you can't perform without it. Lastly is taste, a student must acquire an acute sense of musical taste. For beginning students, I typically use the Standard of Excellent method books. I can work with whatever lesson books they are using for their school programs as well if needed. I also bring the Trevor Wye method books specific to flute for tone and articulation exercises. I supplement these books with the Rubank method books. I also use scales and etudes for intermediate to advanced students. I have a large selection of duets to work on with the students, both for use a prepared works and sight-reading. Read More
