For more advanced students, virtually all material will come from me, with the exception of students who request help with particularly difficult passages in their other repertoire. For beginning students, I start with the Essential Elements book. If the student has already taken lessons or is in their school band/orchestra, I encourage moving onto the Rubank Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced method books depending on ability. Once a student has proven that they are able to handle it, I will start on solo repertoire. Piano - I find that no one method book is completely standalone, so i incorporate several method books...Piano Adventures, John Thompson's course, Piano Pronto, and some self-composed music for my youngest students!  Intermediate-level pianists start choosing some of their own repertoire as well. In my lessons, I will encourage the student to work at their own pace, but making sure they fulfill the objectives as we move along. I want my student to be as comfortable as possible while pushing them to succeed simultaneously. I am a detail-oriented teacher who thoroughly enjoys seeing my students succeed and enjoy their musical journey. During my years of teaching in East Lansing Michigan my band programs continually earned first and second division ratings at festivals. We took trips to Chicago every other year to see the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and to do a workshop at Northwestern University and my students received first and second division ratings at Solo and Ensemble both at the district and state levels. I was a judge for solo and ensemble and band festivals.
