Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.

I want to give the student what they want! I try to understand the students' short and long term goals first, then make a list, so we can check those off. If the student doesn't know what they want, then I generally want to set short term goals and go through the basics- chords, scales, rhythm, theory, proper hand posture etc. I try to encourage proper mechanics and fundamentals to beginner students as well. As long as I have been playing ive been teaching. I actually surpassed my music teachers in elementary middle and high school and taught myself much of what I know through materials available to me at the school. I teach for several different schools in the Seattle area in addition to Musika. I've taught mandolin to an elderly woman who wanted to sing German folk songs to her grandkids, I've taught piano and ukulele to kindergartners, I've helped teenagers write their own songs and perform them to peers, and I've helped dads in their thirties to relive the glory days of Shoegaze and Grunge. I take one lesson at a time while careful to scaffold the information. I want students to improve, but I also want them to know what it is that they must do in order to become a competent musician. I can be tough, but at the same time, I don't mind changing directions and moving from say, ear training to sight reading or some other approach. For beginners, either children or adults, I like to begin by teaching you to play an easy song that is recognizable so that you are excited and engaged in your instrument right away. From there we dive in to a beginning instructional book that teaches you the theory of what you are actually playing.
