I write all my own lesson materials focusing on what the student needs to know to play, understand, and enjoy music to achieve their goals. I have used several method books in the past but find them all limited or focused on styles or technique that is not what the student wants or needs to learn. I can teach from any established method if that is preferred, but instead enjoy challenging the student to understand what music is and how music is played on their chosen instrument, not just to read. My style is rooted deeply in performance and dramatic interpretation. We will work extensively on microexpressions, which are genuine expressions provoked by real emotion. If we think of real experiences when we sing that we relate to, it will transform the performance and bring it to life. The performance will be more believable. I take a very straightforward approach to teaching and I provide an example of what it can look like if practiced adequately. I ask my students what goals they have and formulate a curriculum based on where they want to be as a player. From there, we choose the best techniques, songs and artists to learn from. This way, students learn to really fall in love with practice and also playing and are thus encouraged to keep practicing. Read More

I believe that each students is at a different level so you have to tailor everything based on that. I believe that reading music is extremly important in the development of singing as well as enjoying music. I believe that each student should know key signatures as well as what notes are on and off the staff. For all students I focus on the following: Breath, Correct Vowel Placement. I believe that if you have solid breath foundations then you can produce purer vowels and in turn if you have purer vowels then you have longer lasting and easier breath production. Read More
