For beginners, I typically start students off with the suzuki books to build technique, but I teach them from the classical perspective rather than the suzuki method. With intermediate and advanced students, i will introduce solo repertoire appropriate for recital performance and/or a commercial piece (fiddle tunes, pop songs, etc) that the student is interested in learning. I approach teaching from a place of understanding. The last thing anyone wants is to be frustrated by the thing they're passionate about! Not everyone learns at the same pace, so if a student is struggling with a passage or technique, I'll set realistic goals to motivate them to improve their skill in a way that entices them to continue. In 2016, I graduated from Belmont University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance. They will have the sight reading, transcription, and ear training skills necessary to move foreward into professional settings.
