I attribute development of my teaching method to having started as young as I did; it is my firm belief that students and teachers should learn together, and that, especially with younger students, that it should be fun, engaging, and even a little bit silly at times. I both encourage and require regular practice on a consistent schedule; practicing not only helps students further their progress, but it helps them to avoid burnout by maintaining a view of music as less of a chore and more of a fun activity. For beginning students, I focus on the essentials of theory and intervals and combine with the Voice for Life method. Each lesson is tailored to the student's needs and goals, so no lesson is exactly alike in structure. For intermediate to advanced students, I focus on aural (ear) training, sight singing and rhythm and follow it with prepared pieces in order to be "audition ready". For the intermediate to advanced students, I don't use a specific tool for teaching as I feel once you are past the fundamentals of music, everyone learns differently. Read More

I also teach hour-long group vocal classes seasonally. On average, I teach around 30 lessons a week, mostly 30/45 minute sessions, and several hour long sessions in addition to my group classes. The majority of my instruction takes place over FaceTime/Zoom, or in the student’s home. I just recently moved back to my home of Colorado from New York City. I am now based in Denver, where I am head engineer/producer of my own recording studio, “The Mine.” Many of my longstanding students have continued with me as their teacher via Zoom/Facetime, regardless of me moving or being on tour. I studied piano and violin during elementary, middle and high school, playing with the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra in the 70's. In college I pursued voice and violin and studied music theory, history of opera, orchestra, chorus. I was interested in acting and musical theatre and did further studies at MacPhail School of Music. (Minneapolis, Minnesota). I performed in night clubs, for weddings, churches and conferences over the years. Eventually, I sang and wrote songs on guitar and performed for many New Thought churches from 1980s - 2000's.
