In general, I focus on five distinct areas of learning: technique, theoretical understanding, reading, intuitive playing/learning by ear, and performance. Playing is a big part of the creative process, in that it involves experimenting and finding new ideas, thoughts, and processes that work best for each individual and that will lead to the perfect practice and the excitement of performance. When a student is ready, I will encourage them to do some suggested performing opportunities. I've been teaching music on and off for almost 20 years I write my own songs and find this a good way to teach as well. I've had many great students, been in many great bands, never fame nor fortune but always fun and great music. My favorite moments are connecting to other people through music.
