As a young teenager, I began taking voice lessons, and for the first time in my life I felt like I had found my instrument. Throughout the years, I studied locally in Albuquerque, and later went on to study in New York City. I am a lifelong learner, and continue to perfect my craft of singing. I still visit New York to expand upon my vocal knowledge so that I am able to bring it back to my students. Read More

I believe that motivating and inspiring music students requires a different approach. I love to teach because its very rewarding to see when a student gets it after many trials and errors. Every practice session should have a goal, and practice goals are more important than setting a time. Tracking student progress is key to success. By helping students understand their trajectory in learning I like to have frequent dialogue between student and teacher so that any challenges can be approached with a strategy that the student understands and can appreciate. Identifying the student's goals at the outset of course will guide the particular approach. Essentially my teaching style relies on good communication about what is required to achieve the goals agreed upon. Read More

Depending on the instrument that the student studies and how old they are is how approach teaching them. For example, my voice studentsalways start out learning the same techniques and warm-ups, but where we go from there is based on the age of the voice and how a person wants to learn. With Guitar and Piano I may use a book as a supplement to my teaching, but not as the focal point of my teaching because every learns differently andare ina different place in their journey. I am a versatile music teacher. As an undergraduate at Ithaca College, I learned each band and orchestra instrument from the college instructor. For example, I learned to play the oboe from the oboe professor. We had to make our own reeds and use them to play our final exam. Through this rigorous training, I learned to play all major scales and high school level music on the flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, trumpet, French Horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, violin, viola, cello, double bass, and percussion.
