My first experience with teaching was as a 15 year old counselor at a week long violin summer camp in Maine that my private teacher was running. It was a really fun summer of outdoor violin practice, board games, fishing, swimming, watching movies and cooking together. Since then, I have been teaching private lessons and also enjoyed 2 summers teaching at Interlochen. I have been around music practically since I was born, as my parents were both professional musicians and our house was constantly filled with the sounds of Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert. I initially decided to study piano and violin performance but changed my focus to education and teaching. As a passionate musician, I have enjoyed playing in symphony orchestras through the years, and I've found that being part of a group of people whose purpose is to produce a beautiful work of art is one of the most enjoyable experiences one can have. I first began teachng bass guitar in my early twenties.  Later in life I worked in both Japan and Thailand, where I studied with master drum teachers and also top piano and violin instructors.  After returning to the United States, I entered a program to become a certified guitar instructor, and am the ONLY instructor in my area which has earned these certifications which are specific to several different points of teaching guitar. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Essential Element's for Strings or Beth Lavender's A Better Beginning. These books introduce the fundamental position and note reading techniques in a logical progression. After the student has grasped the fundamentals, they are welcome to bring in contemporary songs. I find that a mixture of fundamentals and fun recognizable songs keeps students both progressing technically and connected to the music. Read More

I am a graduate of Millikin University's performance program and have been fortunate enough to perform all over the world.  Music is life for me and I enjoy the "Light bulb" moments when the students are learning and the fingers just work!
