Hi! My name is Lauryn L. and I am 19. Right now I go to BYU, and I am studying Viola Performance. I started viola in 6th grade and have been playing ever since. From 10th grade to 12th grade I went to the Gifted Music School Conservatory in SLC. I graduated from there last year. I have been able to work with many professional musicians through this music school. My favorite memories from my music experience so far was playing in Abravanel Hall with the Lyceum Philharmonic Orchestra, and playing 2 outdoor concerts at Thanksgiving Point Ashton Gardens with them as well. As a section leader and concert mistress in my high school's orchestra, I was responsible in helping my teammates learn the music and practice for performances. Developing proper techniques, rhythm, and focusing on problem areas in regular practice sessions are important points I help students work through. Whether it be private lessons for individual improvement and solo pieces or multiple people in an ensemble, the basic skills are important in conveying the meaning and emotions of a piece of music. Each person is different. Because of this, I always make sure each student is going at their own pace. At the beginning of the year, I sit down with each student and we set goals for our playing. I want students to feel motivated and inspired always, and to practice because they love it- not because they feel forced.
