Assuming that the student is starting from scratch, I start by directing them how to hold the bow and explaining all the different parts of the bow and their purpose. I then move over to the violin and do the same. I first start with showing them a good bow hold as I feel like a proper bow hold is a very important key to making a great sound. I will also take the time to explain the role of the fingers and show how it is the foundation to all the bow technique they are going to learn. Read More

Most importantly, learning violin should be fun.  In my lessons, my students will find a variety of rhythm games and activities.  I am not just teaching violin, but music as a whole. I feel that music appreciation needs to be built into violin lessons.  I will share pop and classical music with students, show them live performance videos, and encourage them to experiment with their own natural abilities.  I am a big communicator when teaching beginning students. I have been teaching private violin lessons since I was high school student. I have also taught private and group/string orchestra with the Atlanta Music Project and Chapel Hill Middle School in Atlanta, Georgia. Most recently, I worked with Lessons in Your Home in Miami, Florida. As a college student, I performed in various gigs in the Atlanta area. I was active at my university in the chamber music program as well as the Emory Symphony Orchestra, where I served as the principal second violin chair and played an 1870 Scarampella violin. I create tailored lesson plans for each student taking into account age, experience, personality and learning style. Lessons can include ear training, music history, harmony, sight reading and improvisation depending on the level and goal of the student. I have held concertmaster and associate concertmaster positions in my youth orchestras, as well as my orchestra at New York University. In doing so I have been able to use my experiences to lead others with patience and confidence. Among those I privately tutor, I was able to teach a diverse population of students, including students with special needs.
