For the last 2 years I have been teaching private lessons at an elementary school and have been teaching group lessons when asked. During the fall I also have been a low brass technician for a local marching band. Finally I have played in many pit performances for local high schools. It is important to me to get the student playing familiar tunes as soon as possible so that they enjoy playing but not at the expense of the fundamentals. Generally, I choose a piece for a student to play and then they choose a piece. Of course I emphasize the rudiments of each instrument and I incorporate technique into each piece they choose and each piece I choose.
