I'm a life-long musician and am extremely interested in passing my knowledge on to others. Currently I am a band director in the Pueblo, Colorado area but have lived all over the United States and played trumpet extensively for over 2 decades. I was trained as a trumpet player at DePaul University, UAB, and most recently at the University of Alabama, and also have experience composing and arranging music. The key goal for me as a teacher is making sure that my student is enjoying what they're doing. Music is supposed to be fun after all! I achieve this by allowing my student to progress at their own pace while they develop both their knowledge of music and their enjoyment of the craft. I like to really dig into fundamentals by making sure that they are FUNdamentals! A student will learn more if they are enjoying the process, and that is key to making a long lasting impact, and instilling in a student that they will have all the tools they need to become the best musician they can. I have been teaching private lessons for 30 years and have taught music theory and guitar in the public and charter school systems of Colorado and New Mexico for the past 14 years. I ask them to bring any materials they have and will often recommend books and supplemental material I have had success with. I challenge every student to exceed their own expectations. I believe everyone has more to learn and achieve, including me. Many students have taught me something, lets grow together. I use many books to start students and usually spend most of the lesson in the Arban's Complete Conservatory Method for Trumpet (Cornet). I like students to study classic trumpet solo's literature. Trumpet students will learn to slurring, double and triple tonging technics, as well as transposing and how to write music. Read More
