For beginning piano students, I started with the Piano Adventures Series unless they show a higher than usual natural ability. If I see that are above average, I will switch them to the Modern Course for Piano by John Thompson. Along with these method books, I introduce solo music from classical to modern music. I'm trying to put each student in touch with their inner creative. Everyone learns at a different pace and my approach is to teach something to mastery level rather than fill a quota. Inspiration and the joy of playing is first and foremost with my approach. My teaching experience has been a part of my life for over 12 years starting with my leadership in my high school band specifically with brass instruments. I continued to pursue music education in college where I developed varied techniques and approaches to a variety of instruments through my time spent with some great teachers that identified my challenges and helped me to overcome them. My experience has always been with beginners and earlier musicians, but my tenure in Avery County has given me more experience with intermediate and advanced players that have auditioned and performed in All-District and other Honors Bands throughout North Carolina.
