I currently teach at a Charter School in Newark, NJ. I have taught private saxophone and trumpet lessons since I was in high school. Practicing on a regular schedule is the best way for young students to improve, as well as older students to continue to perfect their technique. My goal is for students to have fun while they learn and while they practice. A lot of times, students are not encouraged to practice because it seems too difficult. Read More

If youve been wanting to learn a favorite piece, working on that piece can get you excited about going to lessons. And, playing duets with your teacher can also be a great way to change things up. My experience as a teacher and my love of teaching is like the air I breathe........it's what I live for. In addition to making lessons, themselves, fun, I will help you connect with other musicians for additional opportunities. Read More

My instruction is tailored to the specific musical goals and needs of the individual student, however, a students progression is paced by the individual. A significant aspect of my teaching style is my understanding of the various ways in which people learn and the vast amount of tools I utilize to impart information. The balanced acknowledgement of a students strengths and weakness tends to encourage their desire to progress, while setting attainable goals can motivate that process to result continuously. If, for example, you already know how to play the piano, but you want to be better at it, I will help you and teach you what ever I feel can help you become an even better pianist. Read More

For beginner students, I focus heavily on fundamentals consisting of breathing, mouthpiece buzzing, long tones, slurring/tonguing exercises, and scales. I will require each student to learn at least 1 new scale each week once we've established our individualized curriculum. For more intermediate/advanced students, fundamentals are still a must, but we will also begin more challenging repertoire such a solos, etudes, orchestral excerpts, and various other advanced studies depending on the student's level. I moved to San Francisco California in 1969 and spent the next fourteen years playing, touring and recording with such diverse musical luminaries as Boz Scaggs, Otis Rush, Doug Samms, Jessica Williams, Sonny Fortune, Dexter Gordon and Art Blakey. I also was fortunate enough during this period to study Trumpet with John Coppola and Woody Shaw. In 1983 I moved back to New Jersey where I now live with my wife Esther. Read More
