Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. Our music teachers understand that every student has different needs and abilities and therefore the lessons will be planned with that knowledge in mind.

I taught my first lesson at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and I immediately I was drawn into teaching by the level of enthusiasm, open-mindedness, and desire to improve shown by the student. This student made rapid progress each week, and eventually was offered to go on an international tour with Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp the following year. I continued teaching when I attended the Manhattan School of Music as a graduate student, tutoring undergraduate students there, and once again I was drawn into the rapid progress and enthusiasm of each of the students tutored. I have been a musician for 30yrs. with Alto Sax being my Primary Instrument. Being a Woodwind player I also play Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone, Tuba, and Percussion. I have performed in many large/medium/small venues with many Bands and Ensembles throughout my career. I love seeing students realize their own progress. I always like to start with recording a first attempt and then recording it again once it has been mastered so they can see their progress. I focus on positive reinforcement teaching. It is very easy, especially for a new student, to get bogged down in not making progress fast enough so I like to make sure they see all the steps they're taking and also know where it will lead them. With young beginner students, I start with either the Essential Elements books for wind instruments or the Faber method for piano. After basic musical skills have been developed I'll move on to more interesting solo pieces based on the interests and needs of the students. With adults, I tend to talk to them a little more specifically about what their musical goals and influences are and help them to achieve them in their playing. Read More

Generally, my teaching style depends on the student. Why is that? Everyone is unique, and everyone learns differently. It would be absolutely foolish of me to ever think that I can use one teaching method or style for each and every student. So I teach based on the student's learning style and predispositions. Also I tend to do alot of finger techniques as well as aural training, because I believe even though music reading is essential, it does you no good if you can't respond musically to the sounds and the nuances of your environment.
