I teach according to each students learning ability and I also love to challenge my students to help with their daily practice time. Depending on the level of advancement , we will determine the materials that is needed for each lesson. If its a beginner they will start on the basic learnings and fundamentals of music to help them better understand the lesson. For beginning students who are children I like to start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Most schools use this book and I feel its a great beginning method. I start them working on tone and ear training. There is no one size fits all learning companion so I really like to see what the students interests are and find what really works for them. I'm of the opinion that students desire instant feedback but also need to be frequently reminded that learning an instrument is a journey which can take a lifetime if one desires to do so. I ask a lot of leading questions so the student might be able to work out the 'whys' to go along with the 'hows'. I expect my students to work hard as they are paying to improve on their instrument.
