I have seen my students achieve success at all levels, from being a beginner to winning a college scholarship to the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music! I am a recent college graduate who specializes in classical saxophone, but has experience in all genres including jazz and rock. I have taught private lessons for several years, and my students have achieved the highest honors at regional and state festivals. Recently, I performed as featured soloist with the Minot Symphony Orchestra, playing Jaques Ibert's Concertino da Camera. For beginning students who are children I like to start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Most schools use this book and I feel its a great beginning method. I start them working on tone and ear training. There is no one size fits all learning companion so I really like to see what the students interests are and find what really works for them. My philosophy is fundamentals based but flexible enough to be structured around the needs of the student. I try to keep the student engaged with a variety of exercises to keep the work interesting and as fun as possible. I strive to be as positive and encouraging as possible. I don't train students to make honor bands. That's not the reason to take lessons. Instead, I try to make sure the student is developed to the point where honor bands are nearly a given. Read More
