I started teaching private lessons my senior year in high school. Once I went to music school, i started to refine my teaching technique, and have been teaching privately for the past 25 years. Regularity and time management is key to my student's success. I like to draw on classical repertoire outside of the standard clarinet and saxophone repertoire to allow my students a well rounded classical experience. Students who want to focus on jazz studies can also learn a great deal from studying baroque music and ornamentation, and I like to offer a broad perspective to people eager to learn. Read More

While still playing semi-professionally, I decided to try my hand at teaching and have been in education since 1984 when I was first hired as band director for Gallatin Jr High School. Read More

My methodology is somewhat rare, in that I don't have a standardized set of books or resources that I require. I typically focus on fundamentals of musicianship -scales, chords, etc.- as a main focus. as for repertoire, I tend to gravitate to the great American song book/ other Jazz Standards. I will, if I feel the student needs it, assign etudes from various books. I also spend time developing the students ability to recognize and react to sounds that are around. Read More
